FAQ

What is the difference between a walk-in bathtub versus a regular bathtub?

The walk-in tub is engineered with an optional inward or outward swinging door with a low step-in threshold with an average of 3”- 6” in height from the floor. The door can be opened and closed to allow the bather to enter and exit the tub. Also, various walk-in tubs come with a 15”-17” high seat molded into the tub. The soaking depth of a walk-in bathtub is assessed differently from a regular bathtub determined by three pivotal factors: the interior length of the walk-in tub, the length of the seat, and the distance from the seat to the overflow. Plus, the walk-in tub models come in multiple sizes designed to replace an existing bath or shower space with most walk-in tub sizes being an average of 30” in width x 52”-60” in length and 35”- 40” in height from the floor.

MB Walk-In Tubs distributes 25+ walk-in tub models, each designed for various body sizes and types.

The regular bathtub is engineered with the option of laying down in the bathtub while bathing. When entering or exiting the bathtub the bather must step over a high threshold typically 17”-18” in height from the floor causing a fear of falling before and after the bathing experience.

Do walk-in tubs fill quickly?  (Fast fill faucets, staying warm, wait time, cold seat)

MB Walk-in Tubs feature fast-fill deck mount faucets, offering several advantages over regular bathtub faucets with slower fill times. These fast- fill faucets are designed to maximize water flow, reducing heat loss due to longer fill times. MB Walk-In Tubs offers sleek and modern design faucets.

What size water heater should I get for my walk-in bathtub? (out of hot water, cold water, slow fill time, weak water pressure, not enough hot water)

There are multiple factors can affect the fill time and the water temperature:
1. The size of the walk-in tub (water capacity in gallons, occupied)
2. The water pressure in the house
3. The water supply piping size and configuration (1/2” vs ¾”)
4. The distance from the walk-in tub to the water heater
5. The faucet of the walk-in tub (fast-fill vs standard)
6. The efficiency and capacity of the water heater
7. Simultaneous operation of multiple plumbing fixtures
Considering all factors, it is always recommended to upgrade the water heater to the larger size. Each case is different. The average walk-in tub usually requires a 50 - 75 gallon water heater.
There are also available electrical and natural gas high-efficiency tankless water heaters. Usually, tankless water heaters offer slower fill time, so purchasing the highest flow rate available – 11 GPM or higher is strongly suggested.
Example of a tankless water heater:
Rheem Performance Platinum 11 GPM Natural Gas High-Efficiency Indoor Recirculating Tankless Water Heater

Aren’t powered drains faster and pump water out quicker?

Yes, it does drain faster however while the hydro pump pushes the water through the drainage system faster it also applies lots of pressure to the walls and fittings of the house drainage system and can damage that especially if that is old or if there are some weak spots in the sealed joints.

How long it will take to drain my walk-in bathtub?

The draining time of the walk-in tub will depend on the water capacity of the tub, the complexity and condition of the house drain. Please make sure your house drain is tested by an experienced plumber and is in good condition before installing the walk-in tub.

It will not make your bath warmer or completely maintain temperature, but it will keep the water in your tub at a consistent, comfortable temperature.

Larger bathers or bathers that have mobility challenges will specifically benefit from the 3 speed air massage with bidet jets that can be helpful with hard-to- reach places. Bathers who have circulatory issues such as diabetes, hypertension, or amputation may benefit from a hydro jetted walk-in tub with intensity control dial. The strategically placed jets massage the feet, legs, calves, hips and back, delivering an invigorating, relaxing experience. Bathers who have skin conditions may benefit from our Infusion microbubble feature. The microbubble system generates micro air bubbles into the water that are less than 50 microns. These microbubbles penetrate the first layer of skin and become a natural exfoliant. Can I put Epsom salts or bath bombs in my MB walk-in tub? (Tub additives, bubble bath, aromas, scented oils, epsom, salts)

Yes. Epsom salts are fine for use with your walk-in tub and will not harm the jetting system. We do recommend that you rinse your tub after their use however. Bath salts and bath bombs are not recommended as they may have long term effects on the mechanics of your walk-in tub, but they can be used. The potential harm to your jetted tub comes from the oils, dye, Confetti, glitter, and floral material that is sometimes added to bath bombs. They should be used sparingly, and the tub should be thoroughly rinsed after use.

Can I use Epsom Salts in the combo hydro/air bathtubs. (Tub additives, bubble bath, aromas, scented oils, epsom, salts, hydro, air)

Epsom salt can be used in the bathtub; however, it may affect the chrome finish, most likely causing discoloration and spots on the chrome surface.

Does a walk-in tub increase the value of my home? (Value, luxury, re-sale)

This is dependent on customer desire. If you are selling your home with your walk-in tub and a potential buyer has specific needs that would be helped by a walk-in tub, then it might add some extra value to your home. It is also important to note that a Walk In Bathtub is worth significantly more than the typical bathtub.

How do you clean and prevent mildew or build up of bacteria in a Walk In Tub? (Maintenance, cleaning, tub care, durability, care)

The Pump Circulation System needs to be flushed and drained before using an MB Walk-in Tub for the first time. To flush the bathtub, combine 2 cups of white vinegar and 2 cups of water. Then, fill the bathtub with water to reach an inch above the highest jets. Add the vinegar/water mixture, and run the bathtub for 10 minutes. Since the air and hydro system are plumbed, it is not necessary to flush after each bath. More stubborn debris may be removed with denatured alcohol. It is recommended that the pump’s inlet cover is cleaned and the pump circulation system is flushed once a month. You can clean the pump’s inlet cover by clearing debris, such as hair, followed by wiping it down using a non-abrasive towel and a suggested cleaning material such as: Dawn® Dish Detergent, Rubbermaid® CommercialStrength Shower Tub & Tile Cleaner, Home Depot HDX Shower Tub & Tile Cleaner, Kaboom Shower Tub & Tile Cleaner with OxiClean, and so forth. We do not recommend using bath bombs because they may be difficult to clean and can clog the jet system(s).

On the 3-Speed Air Massage, which speed comes first? Is it high to low, or low to high? (Air massage, bubbles, air bubbles, air jets)

The first time you push the air massage button, it will be high speed. The second push is medium speed, the third, low speed and finally, one more push shuts the system off.
